- Never Can Say Goodbye was Gloria Gaynor's first transatlantic hit although she had appeared on the US Dance chart at Number 2 in 1974 with the track, Honey Bee.
- The single peaked at Number 2 on the UK charts in mid-January 1975 for a sole week, denied the Number 1 spot by The Tymes' Ms Grace.
- The single accumulated a run of thirteen weeks within the UK Top 50, earning a Silver disc.
- The song was originally recorded by The Jackson 5 who took it to Number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1971. Their recording could only manage a peak of Number 33 in Britain.
- Gloria Gaynor's version has the distinction of holding the Number 1 spot on the very first Dance/Disco chart ever to appear in Billboard magazine.
- The song is the title track to Gaynor's debut album which peaked within the Top 40 of the UK album chart and established the singer as one of the earliest disco performers .
- Gloria Gaynor appeared several times on the British Singles Chart over the succeeding years, most notably in 1979 when I Will Survive occupied the Number 1 position for four weeks..
