- Mother of Mine was 12-year-old Neil Reid's début release following his win on the UK's TV talent show, Opportunity Knocks.
- It peaked at Number 2 on the British charts for three weeks in January 1972, held off the Number 1 spot by I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (in Perfect Harmony) from The New Seekers.
- It spent a total of twenty weeks in the UK Top 50.
- In the UK alone, the record sold more than a quarter of a million copies.
- Worldwide sales topped 2.5 million with Japan contributing about 400,000 to that number.
- The song was included on Reid's first long player which itself went to Number 1 on the UK's Album Chart. This made the Scot the youngest recording artist to achieve the feat - a record which still stands today.
- Little Jimmy Osmond also recorded Mother of Mine as the B-Side to his 1972 UK Number 1 hit, Long Haired Lover From Liverpool.
- Reid's follow-up, That's What I Want to Be, only managed to scrape into the Top 50 after which he faded into obscurity.
